All Black Girl Hula subscribers are known as "HuLis". This is a combination of the word "hula" and the nickname of BGH Founder, Aaliyyah, "Li".
About Our Founder
Aaliyyah (AD) is a woman of many talents and interests. She is a college educator, world traveler, doula, podcaster, and much more. She values holistic wellness and individualized self-care.

In September 2019, AD watched a Facebook video about the benefits of hula hooping. Soon after, she purchased a weighted hula, but only practiced once.
During the COVID-19 pandemic, AD explored various ways to stay active during quarantine. In April 2020, she decided to give hula hooping another try and fell in love! After endless Instagram stories and TikTok videos, she started the hashtag #BlackGirlHula. The rest is history!
